Start by sitting on the leg extension machine with your back against the backrest and your knees bent at a 90-degree angle. Adjust the pad so it rests on the front of your ankles, just above your feet. Grasp the side handles of the machine for stability. Exhale as you slowly extend your legs forward and upward until they're almost completely straight (but not locked). Hold the contracted position briefly at the top of the movement. Inhale as you slowly lower the weight back to the starting position in a controlled manner. Repeat for the desired number of repetitions or duration.
